- July Newsletter
During the past months, I have felt the need to reconnect with my surroundings and nature in general. So, I went back to landscaping, seascaping, and moon hunting. I also played around with some creative ways of capturing flowers. Take a look at some creations that came out of that. Now, in addition to my framed and mounted options, you can get my images printed on CANVAS as well. There is also a new section of Large Canvas Prints dedicated to my big panoramas (up to 240cm) They have a beautiful soft, warm and modern feel, take a look. More great news from La Galleria is that I am now proudly hosting the artwork of local Artist Edna Fourie. Take a look. If you have any questions or comments, please get in touch. Until next time, with Love Dani
- 2020
Last year was a really “interesting” one. Many things happened on a global and personal level which touched all of us. Towards the end of last year, while driving towards Plettenberg Bay on a dirt road from Nieu Bethesda, I took a series of photographs which I felt embodied the qualities of 2020. The photograph below is from that series. '2020' To see the rest of the series ('spes' and 'salvatio') please visit my website: danisphotos.com If you have any questions or comments, simply respond to this email. Wishing you a joyful year ahead! Until next time, with Love Dani
- ART PRINTS COLLECTION
I’m so excited to present my new Art Prints Collection. These art reproductions are my personal selection of artworks from artists I have had the pleasure to collaborate with. These Art Prints, crafted with love in McGregor, are printed with pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308g 100% cotton paper. Some of these Art Prints will be on display at La Galleria in McGregor from this coming weekend. In the spirit of the new times we live in, this initiative also creates a platform for continued collaboration with, and support for, fellow artists. You can see my complete Art Prints Collection at the following link: www.danisphotos.com/art-prints If you have any questions or comments, just get in touch. Until next time, with Love Dani “The world is beautiful, we just don't have eyes to see it”

- It’s not just ink and paper
It’s not just ink and paper. A fine art print is a creation that finds its own unique expression through several stages. This month I want to tell you more about my creative process. First, there’s the fun part of taking the picture. Then starts the editing which may take quite some time. One needs time to ‘feel’ the image and let it tell you what it wants to become - and the message it wants to convey. Sometimes it's a quick process, but mostly I have to go back and forth for some weeks before the image finds its final look. In some cases, it has taken me a year or more to finalize an image. It’s a matter of patience - like making a good wine or a mature cheese. Making a print look like an image on the screen, or the other way round is an art in itself. There are so many things that need to fall into place to make the magic happen – the kind of paper, ink, printer, settings... When it eventually does come together the satisfaction is so great. Giving ‘life’ to an image is always a fulfilling emotion. Then comes the final stage - the taking-care-of part: putting it in the mount, framing it, and finally, the labelling and packaging before the courier collects it. When it arrives at your home, where you hang it in your space, it’s not just ink and paper in a beautiful frame. It has become a creation that will carry and unfold its message for a long time to come. Lastly, I would like to share with you my new collection called ‘Triptych’. This Collection was inspired by a request to create a group of exclusive artworks which could fit on an entire wall in a modern space. - Lucy's Story
Dear art lover, I’m sure that, like me, you often have questions when you look at an artwork for the first time. So, I thought that you might be interested in knowing a bit more about my creations. For this reason, I decided to write a little story around one of my fine art prints. This time I would like to tell you more about ‘Lucy’. At the beginning of July 2017, I decided to go for a drive in the countryside not far from McGregor. I was in an exploring mood. At that time it was a new road for me and I was curious to see what I would find there. So I took my camera and off I went. I was surprised to find myself surrounded by a completely different landscape just 10 km outside of the village. While stopping to take pictures of an abandoned house I suddenly saw two ladies walking in the distance with something on their heads. I thought, wow, I have to photograph that! As the ladies were walking towards me I didn’t have time to prepare properly and I had to act quickly. I took several shots with different compositions focusing on the one lady who was more interesting to me. Fortunately, she wasn’t acting strangely in front of the camera and kept the posture and the expression on her face which I was trying to capture. I was so excited and looked forward to processing the images. Back in my studio, I was happy with the final image but something was missing - I was expecting more meaning and depth from it. I intuitively played around with the image. In the end, I made it black and white with only the bag of tomatoes in color. For me, the shades of grey represent our current challenging human experience. It creates a stark contrast with the aliveness of the colourful bag of tomatoes - natural nourishment from mother nature. This is a perfect example of how I see the world through my camera. It is like wearing polarised sunglasses: the basic scene is the same but the slight adjustments in color have enriched the original experience. Anyway, there it was: ‘Lucy’ one of my first fine art prints. If you have any questions or comments, simply respond to this email. Till next time, with Love Dani PS. In my online shop, I’m currently offering 20% off on all my fine art prints. Take a look! www.danisphotos.com/shop
