The Sable Antelope Woman
Medium: textile collages
Framed 73 x 93 cm
Cher Graham 2024
The Sable Antelope woman is the abstract profile of an unknown woman from northern Mozambique. This grassland deer (which inhabits the southern savanna of Africa) has a distinctive dark patch over the eyes that is echoed in the light play around this woman’s eye. While her name and history are unknown, her impassive, elusive presence was captured on film in a moment as she turned away from the camera.
