LOCAL TALENTS at La Galleria

Adriaan Landman - He studied at the University of Pretoria in Art Education and later in History of Art and Curriculum Studies which culminated in a PhD on the development of creative thinking in the teaching of young art students. His Master's Degree in History of Art was written on the symbols used in the work of the South African artist Judith Mason.

Cher Graham - Using the multitude of scraps that would normally end up in the bin, along with unwanted soft furnishings or old garments, I use the colours and textures instinctively to contour and layer the characteristic features into being. As a result, no two works can ever be the same even though they may initially be inspired by the same image.

Dani - Born and raised in Italy, Dani found himself moving to South Africa to begin a new chapter. After much searching, he settled in the small village of McGregor. This provided the perfect setting for his photography to naturally evolve into something deeper and long-lasting. In 2017, La Galleria came into being and has become a home for Dani’s art and the work of invited artists.

Dawn Cairs - My expression on canvas is a result of my obsession with the Power of Colour. World travel further inspired me to paint and explore different styles. My journey has taken me from landscapes in watercolour to abstract work in oil on canvas. A great influence in this unfolding was the artist Wassily Kandinsky and his early 20th-century circle.

Kim Nash - Kim was born in Cape Town, South Africa and spent many years working in front of cameras in Europe and the United States. After having two children, Kim opened a photographic studio operated out of her home, running it for fifteen years. During this time, she found herself drawn to painting the images from her work. Currently living in the peaceful village of McGregor, Kim has taken up her paint brushes once again.

Madelein Brönn - Born and raised in a small town in South Africa, I discovered my love for art at an early age. After completing my studies in computer programming, and raising a family. I decided to pursue my passion for art and began studying under a mentor for six years. During this time, I honed my skills in watercolours and charcoal and developed my signature style, which is characterised by the delicate interplay of flora.

Mike Smart - Art provides a conduit for him to celebrate the road he has travelled. It has released him from the confines of scientific rigour and a corporate environment. Mike’s paintings illuminate Creation – nature, wide open spaces and ultimately freedom.

Richard Joshua - I see my art as a journey of discovery, with the freedom to explore and develop my own visual language. I am fascinated and drawn to the interruption of realism, by improvising with painterly brush strokes and mark-making. My aim is to create movement and emotion in a realm where colour and expression are appreciated more than true representation.
